{"id":1924,"date":"2016-12-26T17:45:06","date_gmt":"2016-12-26T21:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.papaworx.com\/Book\/?page_id=1924"},"modified":"2016-12-26T17:45:06","modified_gmt":"2016-12-26T21:45:06","slug":"10-12","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.stuehlingen.online\/Book\/?page_id=1924","title":{"rendered":"10-12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\">\t\tJekhuff (<a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1<\/span><\/a>)\t\twas first mentioned in 1613 <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=3240\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R3240]<\/span><\/a>,\t\talthough at that time and until 1614 he was simply called \u201cJacob Jew\t\tof St\u00fchlingen.\u201d A relative named Schachmann (<a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C2\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">C2<\/span><\/a>),\t\tpossibly a brother-in-law, appeared on the scene nine years later <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1549\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1549]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tWe infer their relationship from Schachmann\u2019s estate proceedings <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1949\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1949]<\/span><\/a>,\t\talthough Schachmann had already died without issue in 1649 <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1784\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1784]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tOverall he ranked eighth in terms of commercial activity, while\t\tJekhuff ranked fourth. Schachmann\u2019s wife Kehlen was the daughter of\t\tMeyerle (<a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C2.1\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">C2.1<\/span><\/a>),\t\tand when Schachmann died, she married J\u00e4ggele Weyl (<a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1<\/span><\/a>).<\/span>\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\">\t\tJekhuff, apparently, was married to old Marum\u2019s (<a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=Z16\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">Z16<\/span><\/a>)\t\tdaughter <a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1480\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1480]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tJekhuff had four sons and two daughters; one daughter was married to\t\tLemblin of Tiengen <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2024\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2024]<\/span><\/a>,\t\tthe other to Judele of Oftringen (<a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=O1.1\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">O1.1<\/span><\/a>)\t\t<a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1860\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1860]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tThe sons were Josephle (<a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.1\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.1<\/span><\/a>),\t\tSchmul (<a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.2\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.2<\/span><\/a>),\t\tMarumb (<a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.3\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.3<\/span><\/a>),\t\tand Jonas (<a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.4\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.4<\/span><\/a>).\t\tJosephle was married to Marla; he was never under protection in\t\tSt\u00fchlingen but by 1637 seems to have moved to Lengnau. He was killed\t\tin 1656, possibly during the unrest associated with the first\t\tVillmergen war, and his widow moved temporarily back to St\u00fchlingen <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2060\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2060]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tIt is likely that he had children, but they are not recorded in\t\tSt\u00fchlingen documents <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=4266\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R4266]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tHowever, by 1665 a \u201cJoseph Jew of Lenglau\u201d <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=4051\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R4051]<\/span><\/a>\t\tis mentioned among the heirs of Jekhuff. \u00a0<\/span>\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\">\t\tSchmul or Schmol, as he was variably called, is also difficult to\t\tdelineate. We know that he was Jekhuff\u2019s son <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2537\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2537]<\/span><\/a>,\t\tbut he never appeared on any protection list. During the height of the\t\tThirty Years\u2019 War, Schmol had escaped to Hallau in Switzerland <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=4069\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R4069]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tHis wife\u2019s name was possibly Bessle <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1862\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1862]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tBy 1637 he had died, but his estate continued to be mentioned until\t\t1667 <a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=4142\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R4142]<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\t<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\">\t\tMarumb and Jonas, on the other hand, had a clearly documented and\t\tprotected presence in St\u00fchlingen, and both were very successful\t\tmerchants. Marumb was married twice, first to a daughter of J\u00f6gglin\t\t(probably <a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1<\/span><\/a>)<a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1846\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1846]<\/span><\/a>,\t\tthen to Mergam, daughter of Marx H\u00f6nlin from Oettingen in Bavaria, who\t\talso went by the name S\u00fcessk\u00fcndt \u2013 a liaison that would prove costly\t\tfor Marumb. Marumb had guaranteed a loan of 680 fl. from Hans Conradt\t\tBraun, a merchant in Schaffhausen, to Marx H\u00f6nlin for merchandise the\t\tlatter had obtained. When Marx H\u00f6nlin was unable to cover the loan,\t\tMarumb was left hanging <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=3946\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R3946]<\/span><\/a>.\t\tJekhuff\u2019s son Marumb died around 1686 <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1395\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1395]<\/span><\/a>,\t\tand his widow Mergam lived in great poverty until about 1700 <a\t\t\thref=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=4454\"\t\t\tclass=\"Internet_20_link\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R4454]<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jekhuff (G1) was first mentioned in 1613 [R3240], although at that time and until 1614 he was simply called \u201cJacob Jew of St\u00fchlingen.\u201d A relative named Schachmann (C2), possibly a brother-in-law, appeared on the scene nine years later [R1549].
