In fact, there were two of them: Asher (Lemble) ben Jacob Weyl (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1.1<\/span><\/a>) and Ascher (Lemle) ben Meir Weyl (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=F1.2\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">F1.2<\/span><\/a>). A critical record <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=265\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R265]<\/span><\/a> shows that the former died around 1671, and the latter, whose origins stemmed from Tiengen, took the former\u2019s place by paying the death tax and marrying Scheinel Gugenheimb <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=867\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R867]<\/span><\/a>, a daughter of Seligmann (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.2.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.2.1<\/span><\/a>) <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=4412\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R4412]<\/span><\/a>. In his later years, Ascher (Lemle) is listed in the tax records only as \u201cLemble alt\u201d (Lemble the old). Starting as a relatively low-volume general merchant, Lemle, now referred to as \u201cLemble,\u201d specialized in general goods such as cloth, ribbons, and hardware around 1690.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\"> <a href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/ft.php?id=2251&amp;ge=m\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/Stuehlingen\/img\/Tree.gif\" \/><\/a> Lemble had two sons and a daughter. His first son, Meir (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1.1.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1.1.1<\/span><\/a>), was under protection from 1706 to 1717 when he moved away without a trace. Neither business transactions nor misdemeanours are recorded. The other son, Schmuly (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1.1.2\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1.1.2<\/span><\/a>), conducted general business more or less successfully. He accumulated debt <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2277\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2277]<\/span><\/a> and in 1731 was planning a move to Wangen on Lake Constance, because he could not pay his protection tax in St\u00fchlingen <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2287\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2287]<\/span><\/a>. Schmuly\u2019s sister was married to Faistel Gugenheimb (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.4.1.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.4.1.1<\/span><\/a>). Faistel had partially supported Lemble during the latter\u2019s dotage and had been promised Lemble\u2019s house. But Scheinel, Lemble\u2019s widow, instead gave the house to her son Schmuly, which caused Faistel to take legal action <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2288\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2288]<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\"> Salomon Weil (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1.2\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1.2<\/span><\/a>) was under protection from 1691 to 1738. His daughter was married to Jonas Gugenheimb in Randegg <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2280\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2280]<\/span><\/a>, probably a son of Jopperle. Salomon traded occasionally in real estate but may have largely been a moneylender. In 1734 he and his son Jonas (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1.1.2.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">R1.1.2.1<\/span><\/a>) tried to purchase \u201cthe barn in the Jew\u2019s lane\u201d for the relatively enormous sum of 250 fl. <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2395\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2395]<\/span><\/a>. Jonas, married to the daughter of Boroch of Oberendingen (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1.2.1.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">G1.2.1.1<\/span><\/a>) <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=806\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R806]<\/span><\/a>, was under protection and ran a low-level business between 1712 and 1743 when he moved away, possibly to Endingen.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lemble or L\u00e4mble Weil\u2019s identity is somewhat confusing and had been difficult to unravel.
