Leib\u2019s wife is fined for beating Mausche in the synagogue\u201d <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=3616\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R3616]<\/span><\/a>. Another time, \u201cSalomon Weil senior (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?R1.1.2\">R1.1.2<\/a>) is fined for unlawfully shouting in the synagogue\u201d <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2367\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2367]<\/span><\/a>, and \u201cMenckhe Bloch (<a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C2.1.2\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">C2.1.2)<\/span><\/a> is fined for bad conduct in the synagogue\u201d <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1147\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1147]<\/span><\/a>. Finally, as of January 1, 1745, the Jews of St\u00fchlingen lost their synagogue <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=31\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R31]<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\"> But social excesses could also be associated with celebrations outside the synagogue: \u201cLemann <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=R1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(R1)<\/span><\/a>, Jecoff <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(G1)<\/span><\/a>, Sannel <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(C1)<\/span><\/a>, and Meierle <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C2.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(C2.1)<\/span><\/a> are fined for throwing stones in windows, breaking drinking glasses, and other wantonness at the circumcision of J\u00e4gli Jew\u2019s <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C2\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(C2)<\/span><\/a> son\u201d <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1563\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1563]<\/span><\/a>. It is the property of the Swiss National Museum and exhibited in the Jewish Museum of Switzerland in Basel.<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: Rapp Buri, J\u00fcdisches Kulturgut, 302\u20133.\"><a id=\"body_ftn56\" href=\"#ftn56\">56<\/a><\/span><\/span> It measures about twenty-six by twenty-seven inches and is beautifully dyed and embroidered with the traditional blessings. The picture in the central medallion suggests a Purim scene, with the Hebrew letters \u05ea\u05d1&#8221;\u05e5 corresponding to the year 492 in the short notation. Although the order of numerals does not correspond to the standard Hebrew notation, it matches the Yiddish diction (units before decimals). The circumcision, therefore, probably took place on March 11, 1732, and the child, therefore, was born on March 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\"> The medallion is surrounded by a Hebrew inscription: \u201cThis belongs to Jehudah, son of the leader and guide, Parnas and chairman, the honourable Maharam St\u00fchlingen [Weil], and his [!Lehmann\u2019s] wife Reichel, daughter of the leader and guide, the honourable Jacob Lengnau [Gugenheim], Switzerland.\u201d Given the proliferation of honorifics in the prose, the cover was probably created by Maharam\u2019s wife. In the explanation accompanying the exhibit the word \u2018<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u05de\u05d4\u05e8\u05dd<\/span>\u2019 (Maharam) had been misread as \u2018<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u05de\u05d4\u05e8&#8221;\u05dd<\/span>\u2019 (abbreviation for \u201cOur Teacher the Rabbi Meir\u201d). The cemetery register of Lengnau and Endingen lists only one son of Jehuda (Lehmann) Weil \u2013 Izchak (January. 29, 1738 \u2013 February. 19, 1823).<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: JFEL-II, 42.\"><a id=\"body_ftn57\" href=\"#ftn57\">57<\/a><\/span><\/span> Since his circumcision would not have fallen on Purim, this cushion cover was probably not intended for him.
