We have no indication of when this mikvah was actually established. But in 1723 well-to-do Marumb ben Sandel Weil <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=S1.2.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(S1.2.1)<\/span><\/a> bought the former inn \u201cKrone\u201d as a residence <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=3055\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R3055]<\/span><\/a> and in 1726 expanded its wash house to incorporate a private mikvah <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=808\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R808]<\/span><\/a>. His son Salomon Weil <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=S1.2.1.1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(S1.2.1.1)<\/span><\/a> eventually had to sell the property <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1222\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1222]<\/span><\/a> after the expulsion and their move to Gailingen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\"> A synagogue (Schul)<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: Elbogen, Der j\u00fcdische Gottesdienst, 477\u201382.\"><a id=\"body_ftn13\" href=\"#ftn13\">13<\/a><\/span><\/span> is first mentioned in 1628 <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=1604\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R1604]<\/span><\/a>. Apparently builder Veltin Kayser claimed 27 fl. from the treasurer of the Jewish community for work he had performed on the synagogue. Two members of the community, Jecoff <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=G1\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(G1)<\/span><\/a> and J\u00e4ggle <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/tree.php?t=C2\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">(C2)<\/span><\/a>, refused to pay their share, claiming that they had not been consulted. They demanded that whoever had ordered the work in the first place should pay. But by an ironic triumph of justice, Hanns Hofacker the younger in 1635 claimed 7 fl. from two trustees, namely Jecoff (Jacoff) and J\u00e4ggle (Jeggle), for supplies he had delivered to the synagogue <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=3115\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R3115]<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\"> The original synagogue was probably situated just outside of but adjacent to the southwest corner of the town wall.<span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: See Fig. 2, chap. 1, page 8.\"><a id=\"body_ftn14\" href=\"#ftn14\">14<\/a><\/span> It also incorporated living quarters for a rabbi.<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: H\u00e4usler, St\u00fchlingen: Vergangenheit und Gegenwart, 157.\"><a id=\"body_ftn15\" href=\"#ftn15\">15<\/a><\/span><\/span> As the community grew, a new synagogue had to be built adjacent to and east of its predecessor<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: Ibid., 158.\"><a id=\"body_ftn16\" href=\"#ftn16\">16<\/a><\/span><\/span> and was later converted to a barn (Judenscheuer).<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: Rosenthal, Heimatgeschichte der badischen Juden, 176\u20137.\"><a id=\"body_ftn17\" href=\"#ftn17\">17<\/a><\/span><\/span> Because of its location in the town, both the old and new synagogue were automatically oriented towards Jerusalem. It is possible that the original old prayer room became the women\u2019s annex. The synagogue seat affair of 1730 mentions both an \u201cupper\u201d and a \u201clower\u201d man\u2019s seat <a class=\"Internet_20_link\" href=\"\/Stuehlingen\/doc.php?d=2253\"><span class=\"Internet_20_link\">[R2253]<\/span><\/a>, and suggests a somewhat unusual seating arrangement.
