St\u00fchlingen itself originated as the dominion of a small, local noble house, Lupfen,<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: Brandeck, Geschichte der Stadt, 000.&lt;pg #?&gt;\"><a id=\"body_ftn4\" href=\"#ftn4\">4<\/a><\/span><\/span> and became the property of the house von Pappenheim<span class=\"Footnote_20_Reference\"><span class=\"Footnote_20_anchor\" title=\"Footnote: H\u00e4usler, St\u00fchlingen: Vergangenheit und Gegenwart, 000.&lt;pg #?&gt;\"><a id=\"body_ftn5\" href=\"#ftn5\">5<\/a><\/span><\/span> for forty years, eventually forming part, by 1639, of the scattered von F\u00fcrsten\u00adberg holdings. Tiengen and its surroundings formed the Landgraviate of Klettgau, which belonged in the early seventeenth century to the counts of Sulz.<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- cp_caption_start --><span class=\"captioned_image alignleft\" style=\"width: 400px\"><span id=\"attachment_2767\"  class=\"wp-caption\"><a href=\"\/Book\/img\/Maps_1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2767\" src=\"\/Book\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Maps_1-e1484690057569.png\" alt=\"small map\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/span><small class=\"wp-caption-text\">Figure 5. Map of St\u00fchlingen and the Wutach Valley<\/small><\/span><!-- cp_caption_end -->\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\">The seven vil\u00adla\u00adges bet\u00adween St\u00fch\u00adlin\u00adgen and Tien\u00adgen, place of re\u00adsi\u00addence for many St\u00fch\u00adlingen Jews, for\u00admed a con\u00adstant bone of con\u00adten\u00adtion for ow\u00adner\u00adship and con\u00adtrol bet\u00adween the ru\u00adlers of St\u00fc\u00adhlin\u00adgen in the north, the counts of Sulz in the south, and the ab\u00adbey of St. Bla\u00adsien in the west (fig. 5). Be\u00adsides St\u00fch\u00adlingen and Tien\u00adgen, a se\u00adries of Je\u00adwish com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adties were li\u00adned up fur\u00adther along the up\u00adper Rhine all the way to Lake Con\u00adstance and be\u00adyond. The vil\u00adlage of Gai\u00adlin\u00adgen and the litt\u00adle town of Aach were ruled by the counts of Nel\u00adlen\u00adburg; Ran\u00addegg be\u00adlon\u00adged to the ba\u00adro\u00adns of He\u00adgau; Worb\u00adlingen was owned by the ba\u00adro\u00adns of Dan\u00adket\u00adschweil, and Wan\u00adgen by the ba\u00adro\u00adns of Mar\u00adbach and Wan\u00adgen. But all of them, in turn, were part of Fur\u00adther Aus\u00adtria, property of the Habs\u00adburg em\u00adpe\u00adrors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"Standard\">Further Austria, of which Hohenems was also a part, served as a common umbrella for many other regions of Jewish settlement as well, including Burgau in Bavarian Swabia. This common administrative link fostered a bond among these Jewish settlements.
